Revolution on New Years Resolution

Everyone is talking about New Years Resolutions now…gearing up and planning for 2016.

I’M TELLING YOU TO STOP!

Because come February you’ll be telling yourself you’re a loser…you can’t keep a simple New Years Resolution again this year.

SO STOP NOW! HAVE A REVOLUTION ON NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS….

and start being real…real with your self and real about resolutions.

AS DR. PHIL SAYS

YOU CAN’T BUT FEATHERS ON A DOG AND CALL IT A CHICKEN.” 

So stop putting unrealistic expectations on yourself and call it a goal.

AND this is why I put together a 7 part video series for YOU!

Just like you I’ve disappointed myself  over and over again by not keeping New Years Resolutions.

AND LIKE YOU…I’ve been through countless goal setting classes, books and webinars promising the next best goal setting strategy….so let me say this…

HERE’S WHAT I’M NOT GOING TO DO.

I’m not going to promise you the sun, moon and stars. I’m not going to promise your Swamp Land in Florida. I’m not going to tell you this is the perfect solution for you….only you can decide that.

What I am going to tell you is this works for me and it works for my clients.  WHY NOT KEEP AN OPEN MIND…BECAUSE AS YOU WILL SOON FIND OUT…

It all starts in the mind….your mind that is.

Here’s a fact…MOST PEOPLE DON’T SET OR KEEP GOALS? Why? Either too many goals are set so it becomes overwhelming, and/or there’s no focus on goal achievement.

HERE’S HOW THE REVOLUTION ON NEW YEARS RESOLUTION PLAN WORKS.

RULE: #1

Focus on 2 things you want to accomplish in 2016 and that’s it…only two. Don’t overload yourself with a ton of goals. When you do the goal setting process becomes overwhelming and the day-to-day action steps become stifling. Instead of setting yourself up to fail, set yourself up to achieve!

FIRST:

Use a paper and pen or a poster board. Now brainstorm all the things you’d like to accomplish in 2016. If you have a long list, that’s ok…

SECOND:

I’m suggesting that you write everything down first, and don’t use a word doc on your computer. There’s an actual feeling of creating when using pen and paper, or colorful ink, Sharpees, etc.

THIRD: (AND THIS IS IMPORTANT)

LOOK AT EACH ENTRY ON YOUR BRAINSTORMING SESSION. PUT A CHECK MARK NEXT TO EACH ENTRY THAT STIMULATES AN EMOTIONAL RESPONSE.

EXAMPLE:

If weight loss is a goal for you and just looking at it makes you squirm, that’s an emotional reaction. Even though you feel no motivation towards losing weight, because you’ve failed in the past, put a check mark next the goal.

YOU MAY BE SAYING TO YOURSELF…

”WHY? I HAVEN’T LOST WEIGHT YET, AND IT’S UNLIKELY I WILL. YEAH, I HATE THE WAY I LOOK, BUT YOU SAID TO BE REALISTIC…I’VE TRIED, I CAN’T LOSE WEIGHT, AND NOT ACCOMPLISHING THIS WILL MAKE ME FEEL WORSE.”

Here’s why you need to put a check mark next to it….

You want to identify ALL those goals that stir an emotional response in you. If one gives you a neutral feeling…then don’t check it..CROSS IT OUT.

It’s both positive and negative emotions that will cause you to take action. For example: While you should find a better job, if you feel neutral about it, you won’t achieve the desired results….UNLESS..you have a MASSIVE DESIRE for a new job.

SO mark each goal as a NEUTRAL FEELING, OR A STRONG FEELING (POSITVE OR NEGATIVE)?

MAKE SENSE?

Here’s what I’ve discovered when helping my clients…MANY TIMES GOALS ARE MADE BY WHAT WE SHOULD ACCOMPLISH NOT BY WHAT WE WANT TO ACCOMPLISH.

You should get a new job.

You should lose weight.

You should network more.

When you SHOULD do something and you don’t have massive desire behind it, you’ll just find yourself in 30 days wondering what happened! Your list should be goals you WANT to accomplish.

 

Go back to your list….you now have identified whether the goal caused a positive, negative or neutral response.

NOW CROSS OUT ALL NEUTRAL RESPONSES.

NEXT

You have your list of positive and negative reactions to each goal. Go through the list and cross out the ones that have the least emotional responses until you’re down to just two. The last two goals are the two that create the highest emotional response within you…doesn’t matter if it’s positive or negative.

REMEMBER:

To accomplish your 2 goals…you must have a…

 

STRONG EMOTIONAL REPSONSE TO IT

A STRONG WHY YOU NEED TO ACCOMPLISH IT

AND BELIEF YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IT.
